My New Nokia 7 Plus

So I finally got myself a new phone. I traded my Huawei P9 for a 2nd-hand Nokia 7 Plus (N7+). This thing was at the top of my list. It ticks all the boxes: no notch, 18:9 display, LCD instead of LED (I Waze a lot so I'm afraid of burn-in), stock Android, USB-C, a fucking headphone jack. The only downside is the very high price. I got this one for a very good price so it was a no-brainer.

I love the thing so far but I've discovered another flaw outside of the price: accessories. Or the lack of them. My favorite phone case is the Ringke Fusion. It features a flexible TPU bumper and a hard clear back. The clear back allows me to make design inserts to jazz up and change up the look of my phone whenever I want. I had this case on my Nexus 5 and on my Huawei P9. It's great. Unfortunately, Ringke doesn't make it for the N7+. Another alternative is the Spigen Ultra Hybrid, which is much the same as the Rungke Fusion. But again, Spigen doesn't make cases for the N7+. Hell, it doesn't seem like any well-known case manufacturer makes cases for this phone. The only one I've seen is from Nillkin. That one doesn't have a clear back so I don't want it. What I have right now is a cheapo clear jelly case. It would've been just fine for me except it's thinner than the phone's camera bump. This means that when I've got the phone resting on a table or other surface, the camera glass is making contact with the surface. I'm afraid it'll get scratched up.

Speaking of scratching glass up, it's also nigh impossible to find a good screen protector for this thing. This was also a problem I came across with my P9. See, both these phones and most new phones nowadays feature a curved screen. It's not as pronounced as in Samsung phones, just a slight curve toward the edges. But that slight edge is enough to make screen protectors a nightmare. I have a tempered glass screen protector on my N7+ right now and here's what it looks like:

Yeah, I made this image in Illustrator. Sorry, I don't have any other camera besides my phone. Anyway, the sides of the screen protector don't adhere to the screen because of the curve so this is what you get. It looks horrible, I know. People have worked around this by swabbing oil along the edges of the protector. It works but it's kinda stupid. You're not getting rid of the gap, you're just sticking oil in there. And besides, I'm not putting oil on my phone. The way that accessory manufacturers have worked around this is by making screen protectors with colored bezels. This way, you don't see the lifted eges. Here's what they look like:

This would be fine and dandy, unfortunately it's not perfect. I bought one of these for my P9 and there was this rainbow ring forming on the center of the screen. This was because the protector wasn't adhering to the screen at the very center. There was a gap. Maybe I could have lived with it but I'm pretty particular about these things and the rainbow was just visible enough to annoy the living shit out of me.

So there are no good solutions. I eventually just used my P9 without a screen protector. But the screen got scratched up. I'm as careful as one can be when it comes to my phone. I love my phone, after all. But it still got scratched up. So I'm not sure what to do.

I wish I could make my own case...
